What is an women’s shelter (Frauenhaus)?

We are a specialized institution that provides assistance, protection and advice to women and their children who are victims of physical, mental and/or sexual violence.

Violence is more than hitting! Violence is also threats, paternalism, humiliation, coercion, constant control, prohibitions of all kinds, imprisonment, physical and mental abuse! No one has the right to hurt you, neither your partner or your family!

We offer:

Counselling for all women affected by violence

Do you need a personal consultation? Do you want to talk because the relationship with your partner escalates or people of your social environment (family, relatives, neighbourhood, community etc.) threaten or patronize you? Our focus is on psychosocial counselling for women. We help you with decision-making in relationship conflicts. We are happy to provide information on the following topics:

  • Gewaltschutzgesetz (Protection of Violence Act)
  • Separation, divorce, custody, what happens next…
  • Information on lawyers and therapists
  • Home allocation
  • Stalking

Come to our open office hours (Tuesday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm) at the “Club Galletti” (Jüdenstraße 44, 99867 Gotha) or make an appointment with us at the Frauenhaus Contact Office: 03621/40 32 09. All consultations are confidential and free of charge.

Shelter and protection

In the Frauenhaus Gotha you have an anonymous accommodation in crisis situations. This provides immediate protection for you and your children.

In our shelter you live with your children in your own room. Kitchen, living room, bathroom; and toilet have to be shared with other women.

You live on your own money and take care of yourself and your children independently. You are free to come and go as you wish. Of course, as usual with a shared flat, you have to be considerate of the other residents, for example by leaving the common rooms clean and tidy and observing the rest periods. All residents take part in cleaning the common rooms, your own room has to be kept clean independently by yourself. For security reasons there is no Wi-Fi in the Frauenhaus.

You have to be aware that there are no female employees in the house in the evenings and on weekends, but one employee can always be reached via the on-call service.

You must not reveal the location of the women’s shelter, because that is the protection of you and the other women in the women’s shelter. That’s why no visitors are allowed in the women’s shelter.

The women’s shelter is intended as a temporary solution. You can stay with us until you have found a new perspective on life and a different, safe place to live for yourself and your children.
